If keeping your kitchen clean feels like a never-ending chore, you’re not alone — especially if your house is full of people who organize. in complete contrast than you.
This post is about that real-life harmony that makes a shared kitchen really work – even if you’re a bug married to a Bee, or a cricket trying to survive in a butterfly world. These tips work whether you are seen or hidden, detailed or not.
Let’s dive into some smart organizing tricks that keep your kitchen functional, tidy, and functional he is still very handsome.
Start Here: Know Your Editing Style (And Everyone Else’s)
Everyone plans differently! If you’re not sure what your style is (or your roommates) be sure to answer the questions here, it will be VERY helpful in creating systems that work for everyone!
Here’s a quick breakdown of the four Clutterbug styles:
-
A bee: Visual + Detailed
-
Butterfly: Visual + No details
-
A bug: Hidden + No details
-
Cricket: Hidden + Detailed
Knowing who you live with everything.
The Golden Rule!
When planning multiple styles, the golden rule is:
👉 Defaults to Visible as well as No details
Does that mean if Butterfly lives with Cricket? Butterfly wins. (Sorry, Crickets.)
Compromise Hack #1: Decant (Only When It Makes Sense)
Let’s talk about the understatement. I’m not saying you have to take everything out – because that doesn’t work for everyone. BUT if you are a Bee, maybe you just want to hide everything but you say you live with Bees and butterflies? See the need seeing what they have might make sense.
For hidden organizers – if you leave soap, hand lotion, or dish soap out on the counter – it can feel messy and overwhelming. Instead, removing them and putting them in the same containers (which takes about a second) will quickly make the place feel chaotic – no visible noise, no mismatched sign, and no stress.
Compromise Hack #2: Make Drawers Work Each one Style
Everyone can win with the lottery — if they’re organized right:
-
For bees and butterflies: Use clear containers or snack bins with packaging systems so that everything can be seen at a glance. Great for things like snacks or pantry items.
-
For bugs and crickets: Use open bins at the top of the drawer — just toss and go. It’s still organized, but it’s a lot smaller.
Remember: it’s okay to plan yours space in yours style. So if only one person uses the spice drawer, organize it to work for them.
Compromise Hack #3: Create a “Visible But Organized” Setup.
Visual editors often struggle with things hidden behind doors (because they forget). But you can make it work for everyone by keeping things visible inside closed areas. How?
-
Use it clear bins, lazy Susansor draw trays inside the cabinets.
-
A stick The hooks of the foil are attached behind cabinet doors for things like oven mitts or paper towel holders.
-
Use it wall-mounted or attached bins with things like plastic wrap, foil, or small tools.
Everything is behind the door, of course feels hidden… but easy to see and access. Win-win.
Compromise Hack #4: Use Vertical Space (Especially For Food!)
You know I love a good wall plan. Try this:
-
Use it hanging baskets on the fruit and vegetable wall.
-
It’s practical, practical, and very budget-friendly.
-
Bonus: your product lasts longer because of you see the same use it before it gets bad.
This is one of my favorite tricks – especially for small kitchens.
Compromise Hack #5: Create Smart Zones
Before you plan, ask yourself: what are you doing? often in your kitchen?
Whatever it is – that gets it the main treasure. Gather all the tools for that job in one place. (Here at Clutterbug HQ, coffee is important so we have a full hot beverage station with syrups, tea, mugs, and honey all in one cabinet.)
Organizing by task keeps your space more usable and less cluttered.
Compromise Hack #6: Open Shelving
If someone shows up at your home, they probably left things behind all over calculators.
Instead try this:
-
Add open shelves with everyday items such as bowls and cups.
-
Keep the color selection small (2–3 colors max) so you don’t feel chaotic (for those hidden planners).
-
Store above the dishwasher or near the sink to make cleaning easier.
It looks great and keeps the area clear – no more “Where is this going?” chaos.
Compromise Hack #7: Keep it neutral
Here’s a tricky trick: the visual clutter you have on your wallswhere the space feels more oppressive to hidden planners.
So go light or neutral with paint, backsplashes, and finishes. That way, things requirements being outside (like dishes or your coffee bar) becomes “decorative,” and doesn’t compete with wild wall colors.
Neutral does not mean boring. It means peace.
Compromise Hack #8: Hide Big Things
Do you want to make your kitchen feel calmer quickly?
-
Hide i the fridge, dishwasheragain the microwave with cabinet panels.
-
Use a portable induction cooktop instead of a traditional stove – especially if you rarely use your oven.
This keeps electronics out of sight, so every day messier things can come out without covering the space. It’s a complete visual game changer — especially for Ladybugs and Crickets.
Compromise Hack #9: Use Peel-and-Stick Everything
If you’re renting or just looking for a simple, permanent upgrade, Clean and stick tools are your BFF:
These little additions give you smart storage without digging holes, and help everyone keep things where they belong.
Compromise Hack #10: Add a Visual Command Center
Everyone needs a trash can – for bills, permission slips, schedules, and reminders.
Create a mini command center in your kitchen using:
This keeps the paper full of counters again it makes the place feel calm and purposeful.
Ultimate Pop Quiz: Who Wins in the Shared Kitchen?
-
🐞 Ladybug + Cricket? = The bug wins
-
🐝 Bee + Butterfly? = Butterfly wins
-
🐝 Bee + Cricket? = The bee wins
I tangible + intangible always wins – not because you are better, but because it is better which is easy to maintain for everyone.
And if Cricket? I see you. I love you. I married one. (Sorry, Joe 😅)
