The Bottom Line
The Patagonia Terravia Trail is designed for anyone who spends long days on the trail. We tested our pair on a spring hike in Alaska and wore them across the Western US. It took everything in stride.
With its highly breathable and quick-drying fabric, this pant strikes a strong balance between comfort and performance. Our tester appreciated the slightly stretchy Terravia Trail strap. Thoughtful features like all zippered pockets, zippered cuffs, and thigh pocket functionality also make these well-rounded pants.
The disadvantage of this thin pant is the tightness. The material gets stained easily, and we could hear sticks and branches sharply as we passed through the brush. So far, the construction has stuck to the same usage, but these aren’t the top picks on our list of hiking pants for some heavier stuff. But, if breathability, mobility, and comfort are your priorities, it’s hard to beat the Patagonia Terravia Trail.
How We Tested
We tested the Patagonia Terravia Trail pants over the course of three months. We wore these for everyday use, spring hikes in Alaska’s changeable weather, and hiking. Our tests spanned a range of temperatures, conditions, and settings to evaluate performance across all of our test metrics.

Comfort & Mobility
The Patagonia Terravia Trail gets high marks for comfort and travel. We wore the Terravia Trail many times, twelve hour hiking days. Their comfort for long days on planes, trains, and everywhere in between makes them the perfect pair of pants – whether on the go or on the go.
Made entirely from recycled materials, the 86% polyester and 14% spandex blend offers excellent four-way stretch. This makes them similar to climbing or climbing, where long steps and awkward movements require unrestricted pants.
Waist panels that stretch on both sides are an excellent option that improves comfort and may eliminate the need for a belt. We love this unique design feature, and consider the Terravia Trail to be one of the most comfortable pants on our list – whether it’s on or off the trail.

Breathing
If breathability is your first priority, the Terravia Trail is a great choice.
Tested in conditions ranging from 40 degrees and pouring rain to 80 degrees and sunny, very little visible humidity goes bad very quickly. Once soaked in sweat, it evaporated without leaving us feeling cold and wet.
The Terravia Trail is a favorite for fast hikes where maximum breathability is required. It’s also a great option for a warm, mid-summer hike.

Weather Resistance
The thin construction of the Patagonia Terravia Trail sacrifices weather resistance. These DWR-free PFAS pants can only repel light rain and won’t hold up to anything more than a sprinkle. When we got caught in the spring chaos of heavy rain, the pants quickly soaked and stuck to our legs.
This is not our top pick for wet weather. However, they dry very quickly when exposed to the sun and wind.

Strength
Our Terravia Trail Pants have held up to consistent use without showing any signs of wear. However, it may not be the best choice for heavy use or frequent contact with brush and stones. When we hit the Patagonia Terravia Trail pants, we felt sticks and thorns in the materials. Without braced knees, kneeling in the desert was uncomfortable, too.

Features
The Terravia Trail has simple but effective features that improve performance without excessive technology. Pants with five zippered pockets (including a thigh pocket) can safely pack small items but aren’t big enough for heavy items. Zippered cuffs with internal gussets extend the leg to fit over boots or large calves.

Should You Buy Patagonia Terravia Trail Pants?
From long flights to the trail, the Patagonia Terravia Trail Pants combine performance and comfort. They may lack durability and weather resistance, but their mobility and breathability are among the best in our lineup. If these two metrics are your top consideration, the Terravia Trail is an excellent choice.
