UPDATE – Planning a trip can be difficult. Making sure you pack everything, and making sure you leave enough room for things you might take on the go, can be difficult. We’ve had many trips where friends we’re traveling with end up buying extra luggage to take their new treasures with them. What if there was a way to pack an extra bag – something big enough to carry maybe 55 liters of extra stuff? But that bag would have to be small enough to not take up any appreciable packing space in your regular luggage. Orbitkey has the answer to that argument with the Orbitkey 55L packable duffel. They sent two different colors to test, and thoughtfully sent along an Orbitkey 3L travel bag for good measure. Let’s see if these bags can solve some travel problems!

What’s going on?
A duffel is exactly what the name implies – a duffel bag. It has one large interior opening and several exterior pockets for quick access. Its secret sauce is that it flips inside-out in one of these pockets, folding it empty to put in another bag. A sling bag is a small bag with a long strap. Designed to be worn across the body or carried as a bag. It zips securely and is designed to keep valuables secure against your body. The interior features multiple pockets and tuck areas to organize your daily essentials. To be clear, the travel sling is an additional purchase and does not automatically come with the duffel.

Design and features
Duffel
The duffel comes rolled up by itself. Its single pocket doubles as a storage bag.

To give you an idea of how small this bag is when it’s folded up, I stuck one of my small TV remotes on top for comparison.

The bag is also thin when collapsed. You realize that, like most things, you can’t repackage it as it came from the manufacturer. The black one on the right was packed by me. The olive one on the left is how it arrived.

However, the bag is still small when packed. To use the bag, open the zipper and take the bag out of the pocket.

It opens up to its full size.

The storage pocket doubles as a small exterior pocket with a waterproof zipper closure. A second open pocket sits behind it.

The double top handles are removable and one click.

The back has a luggage pass strap, which allows you to slide this over the handle of your suitcase for easy portability.

Both sides also have small ribbon-style grab handles.

Everything is tied together with a strong thread. The fabric feels durable while being lightweight and flexible. Honeycomb zippers with strong pull cords.
Duffel bags are known for their pockets and dividers. The Orbitkey 55-liter duffel lives up to that promise with a single, large opening inside the bag, with no pockets or pulls.

This is not designed to be a main travel bag. It is a utility bag made for urgent situations, and in that role, it is perfectly suited. When it was first taken out, the bag was well wrinkled. But this is not designed to accompany tuxedos and dresses on the red carpet. It is designed to be used when you suddenly need another bag on the road. One thing that doesn’t have a shoulder strap. That means if you pack it up to the specified 20kg, you will be holding it with one hand.
Travel Sling
A travel sling is a small bag designed to be carried as a backpack or across your body with an included strap.

The back has one zippered pocket. It’s big enough to hold a passport and block RFID.

It also has a small wrist strap that allows you to slide your hand through the strap to hold the bag like a purse.

The length-adjustable shoulder strap connects to the bag with two custom carabiners.

The loop pulls two top zippers, and the outer pocket zipper, can be locked to carabiners to effectively lock the sling. Since the sling hooks are locked into the carabiners and strap securely across your body, this travel sling can be a very unlikely target for pickers.

The interior is deceptively large. A large room can easily swallow a large cell phone.

The interior is divided into thoughtful features on both sides. The front side has a pen loop, a hidden key loop, a zippered pocket, and several expandable mesh pockets.

The back has another RFID blocking zipper pocket.

The quality materials and construction make this sling bag feel like you can abuse it every day, and it will still look good for years.
Working
Duffel
A duffel acts like a duffel! Throw whatever you want into the cavernous interior, zip it up, and go. We did that on a short overnight trip. Everything my wife and I needed fit in the center. You can easily carry a pair of shoes, several shirts, a pair of pants, underwear, and toiletries, making this a great weekend bag. But where this bag really shines is its portability. Here’s a look at the black duffel with the olive duffel still folded.

To give you a sense of how little folding is, here’s a folded olive bag tucked into the front pocket.

One thing missing is a shoulder strap. This means that you will be pulling this bag with one hand. If you load it with 20kg requirements, it will be heavy quickly.
Travel Sling
This was a pleasant surprise. We’ve had many trips where we wanted to take a few things with us for a long day of exploring, but didn’t have a practical way to do it. A travel sling provides a solution where we can carry a cell phone, eye drops, pills, passports, snacks, pen, room key cards and other goodies. Being able to wear it close to the body and the zipper pulls to the carabiner means our belongings will be secure, even in crowds. Getting the zipper pulls in and out of the carabiner took a little ingenuity, but it was easy after several tries.
Final thoughts
There’s a lot to like about these two bags from Orbitkey. First, the duffel almost disappears from your luggage, but when needed, it opens up into extra storage. These two will be a permanent addition to our global travel packing list. The walking sling was a pleasant surprise. First of all, I didn’t expect it, so that was a bonus. The second was its thoughtful design with storage space for everything you might need on a daily basis. I hope this will take miles with us as well.
