This Dinosaur-Shaped Cat Bowl Reimagines Feeding as a Thoughtful Daily Habit

In a market full of similar-looking pet products, the Decopark Dino Bowl stands out by asking a deceptively simple question: What does feeding really look like, for both cats and their humans? From that question comes a ceramic object that combines ergonomics, storytelling, and functional innovation into a single, memorable form.

At first glance, Dino Bowl reads like cute and funny. Its silhouette resembles that of a medium-sized dinosaur, with its neck facing forward and its spine visible from behind. However, this visual identity is not an excess of decoration; it is a multi-purpose design at the same time. The bowl’s cylindrical form is bent in the middle to create a slanted feeding surface, improving the way the cat eats. The “backbone” in the background, meanwhile, is not just an aesthetic flourish: it’s a fully encompassing rod, turning a playful metaphor into a functional tool.

Designer: Xueyong Liang

The designers behind the Dino Bowl started with an observation. The study revealed two important gaps in the existing ceramic pet dishes: visual uniformity and a lack of consideration of actual feeding practices. Many cat owners regularly eat canned food, which requires mixing, however many bowls do not provide a solution for this step. The result? Extra tools, cluttered countertops, and moving sticks that are always wrong.

The Dino Bowl addresses this by combining bowl and tool into one compact unit. The attached sticker stick slot fits snugly into the mounting hole on the back of the container, always returning to its original position no matter how it is placed. During breastfeeding, it helps with mixing; after that, it clears and remains loosely in the form. No extra parts, no visual distractions.

This integration is where the main innovation of the project lies: the realization that usability is not only about the main task (holding food), but about every small practice around it. The choice of materials plays an important role in translating this idea into something lasting. The bowl itself is made of high-temperature fired ceramic, which provides weight, stability, and a premium touch quality. At 1kg, the bowl resists slipping during use, another subtle nod to the ox’s behavior. The moving rod, made of PP, balances durability with easy cleaning.

Designing a beveled ceramic edge, however, presented a technical challenge. During shooting, asymmetrical forms tend to change. To counter this, designers created a two-layer rim frame, reinforcing the rim while maintaining the intended silhouette. Many iterations were required to refine both the curvature of the bowl and the fit between the moving rod and its surface, ensuring harmony not only in appearance but also in production fidelity. The result is a one-piece ceramic form that feels purposeful from every angle, beautiful, yes, but also structurally resolved.

Pet products occupy a unique position in their design: they must satisfy animals organically while being emotionally appealing to humans. Dino Bowl depends on these two. User research has shown that owners really like play situations, especially for things that live freely in the home. With reference to the dinosaur, an instantly recognizable figure, almost universally loved, the container becomes more than a useful object. Become a character.

However, the designers were careful not to let new things dominate. Every line, measure, and join was measured to maintain unity between the bowl and the shaker, ensuring that the product reads as a single, all-encompassing entity rather than a gimmick filled with equipment. With overall dimensions of 168 × 140 × 164 mm and a bowl capacity of 115 ml, the Dino Bowl is compact yet large, suitable for daily feeding without taking up space. More importantly, it shows how even ordinary household objects can be reimagined with careful attention to behavior, context, and context.
