The new L’Oreal Skin Ink Foundation Concealer makes some of the boldest claims I’ve seen yet: up to 48 hours of waterproof, sweat-proof, moisture-proof and wear-resistant while you feel it. it is not visible. Yes, they use the word invisible. The brand also promises that the formula won’t cake or shrink on the skin, and it will last until you decide to remove it— no primer or setting required.

I mean, in theory, that sounds like everything I need in a foundation and concealer, especially living in Las Vegas in the summer. While we don’t deal with humidity, we’re no strangers to sweating in triple-digit weather. I hate wearing heavy makeup in the summer, but I’m still looking for products that can provide protection for my dark spots and freckles.

First, we must talk about the range of shades. There are 22 shades though not one that suits me perfectly. While the options include medium, cool and under warm, neutral shades are on either side of the spectrum with only one neutral source being too dark for me. 130 is a great match for me, but it also dries too pink on me compared to my neck and chest.
The L’Oreal Skin Ink formula is incredibly thin and lightweight. The coverage starts with a nice shine, and ends in a matte finish. This is your formula it should compile quickly. It dries quickly, and once it’s set, you don’t want to touch it too much.
Designed to be worn as protection, foundation, or both. I chose to test it on the face, mainly because the shade didn’t suit me perfectly.

Because it dries quickly on the skin, I find it difficult to build up coverage. If you try to layer the product, and the first layer starts to dry as you add more, you run the risk of removing the set base from the area. Honestly, I don’t agree with the product’s “buildable coverage” claim.
As someone with fair combination skin that is unbalanced, I was apprehensive about the matte finish. My zone is very shiny, but I have dry areas around my hairline and mouth.
This not a blurring formulaand to be honest, it doesn’t mean it is. Any texture on your skin will show once it’s dry, and it didn’t do my pores much good. I found it to emphasize dry areas in a way that made me blush. Also, it has a tacky feel to it that doesn’t go away.

Because of the sheer coverage and layering, I feel like I’m coming off a medium coverage, ie just enough to feel comfortable. But, the coverage stays strong throughout the dayeven with a (hot) girl walking outside in 98 degree heat. In fact, the sweat seemed to make the foundation look a little better on my skin— sort of melting it and fixing some of the textured areas. However, it came out of place when I walked under my sunglasses (on the bridge of my nose) and when my hat touched my forehead.
But it is definitely smudge proof and waterproof. Rubbing the foundation either wet or dry will not cause streaks, smudges, or fading.

I was like that too very scared that there was no creasing, even in my deep expression lines like my laugh lines and between my brows. I really struggle to keep the foundation and concealer smooth on those areas without over-powdering, and even then I’m sometimes left with creasing and smudging. This was probably the biggest highlight of the wear test for me.
Honestly, this foundation coverage looked best on my oily areas: my forehead, cheek area on both sides of my nose, and under my nose. It looked fresh, smooth and flexible. I can confidently say that this formula will work best for oily skin. Results may vary from normal to combination skin, and you’ll probably hate it if you have dry skin. Additionally, because it’s crease-proof and doesn’t settle into lines, it can work as an under eye concealer for people who prefer a matte finish.

One last point I’ll leave you with: this tube only has half an ounce of product inside, approx part of your normal base. At $15-19 (depending on where you got it), these are priced the same as—and in some cases, higher than—high-end foundations. Especially with how much I had to apply to achieve the coverage I like, I have a feeling I’ll go through this quickly with daily use.
Personally, this product is not for me. I don’t like a matte finish all over my face– or as an under-eye concealer, for that matter– and it’s great to work with as part of a routine. However, if you have very oily skin and are trying to keep the product from drying out, this might be what you’ve been looking for.
