Get MacBooks at a Prime Day discount before Apple's new price hike kicks in

Apple recently increased prices on Macs and iPads in response to the rising cost of memory chips, in the middle of Amazon Prime Day. That means that existing discounts (even small ones) on Apple laptops like the MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro have become the best deals.

As an example, the 13-inch MacBook Air M5 that used to start at $1,099 and is currently on sale for $949 will carry a total retail price of $1,299. That initial $150 discount just became a $350 savings compared to Apple’s upcoming pricing.

There’s no guarantee how long the current sales will hold, and no word on whether major laptop retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, Costco, and others will reset all their Mac prices to reflect the increase. But that means if you’ve been thinking about buying an Apple computer soon or are on the fence about buying one, you’d better make a move while you can.

Fortunately, there are a number of sales available that you can take advantage of. We describe all the deals we can find below.

$590

The foundation 256GB MacBook Neo retails for $589.99 at Amazon and Costco. Normally that would be a small $10 discount, but since Apple raised the base price of the Neo to $699 it’s now $110 off. I 512GB version with Touch ID it’s $689.99 ($110 off the new price) at Amazon and Costco.

$949

The foundation 13-inch MacBook Air with an M5 chip, 16GB of memory, and 512GB of storage is $949 at Amazon, Best Buy, and Costco. That’s a better price than the $1,299 Apple charges now. I 15-inch Air the same base configuration is currently on sale for $1,149 (and $350 off its new price) at Amazon, Best Buy, and Costco.

As good as the Neo is, the Air is still Apple’s best all-around laptop. Its balance of performance, battery life, and portability is unmatched. And for $949 or $1,149 you get a laptop that should last you the better part of a decade for what is sadly now such a good deal.

The foundation 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 chip it’s my favorite sweet spot for Apple’s range if you regularly create content but can’t understand paying the very high prices for the M5 Pro / M5 Max. It retails for $1,549 ($450 off Apple’s new MSRP) at Amazon, Best Buy, and Costco. The updated 2026 base model comes with 16GB of RAM, 1TB of fast storage, and has more ports. It’s a decent step up from the MacBook Air, but paying Apple’s new $1,999 price tag makes it even more out of reach than it was.

We may not all agree on why the 24-inch iMac still exists or who needs it, but it’s a lovely all-in-one computer. And the Mac Mini is out of reach thanks to the AI bros and their OpenClaw agents. Whomp.
