It’s a fact of computing life that you can never have enough storage. But good storage isn’t just about storing bits and bytes; it’s about accessing data as quickly as possible. This is where having a capable SSD really makes a difference. The prices of these drives have been rising of late, but there is good news. Amazon Big Day is just around the corner — it launches on June 23 — and CNET’s team of intrepid hunters is already on the case.
I’ve put together a list of the best Prime Day SSD deals that are already live, and the team and I will update it regularly so you don’t miss a thing. With just a few days left before Prime Day kicks off, there’s plenty of time for a lot of things to come. Be sure to check back often if you don’t see the right deal for your SSD yet.
This story is partial Amazon Prime DayCNET’s guide to everything you need to know and how to get the best deals.
The best Prime Day SSD deals

A choice for professionals, this SSD sports a maximum capacity of 2TB and manages impressive read/write speeds of up to 7,450MBps. It comes with pre-installed heatsinks to keep it cool.
WD_Black SN7100 NVMe SSD (1TB)
If 1TB is all you need, it’s hard to look past the WD_Black SN7100. With read and write speeds of up to 7,250MBps and 6,900MBps, respectively, it’s no junk and is the perfect place to store large and small files.
Kingston Fury Renegate G5 NVMe SSD (2TB)

Samsung T7 Portable SSD (2TB)
Portable SSDs are a great way to take your data with you wherever you go, and the Samsung T7 is one of the best. With read and write speeds of up to 1,050MBps and 1,000MBps respectively, it’s a great option when working with media files on the go. The deal is only valid on black or blue.
Seagate Xbox Storage Expansion Card (2TB)
Expand your Xbox storage by an extra 2TB with this handy little SSD. It connects directly to the console through a dedicated port, and loading games to this SSD is fast since it’s from the built-in storage.
Why are SSDs so expensive right now?
You may find that SSD prices are higher than ever. Global chip shortages continue to affect the price of computer components, especially RAM and storage. That means prices have risen significantly in recent months. The deals available during Prime Day may just bring them down to, or at least close to, their early purchase prices. Memory and chip suppliers don’t expect shortages to improve anytime soon, so these deals may represent the best prices we’ve seen for a while.
When is Amazon Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day starts on June 23 and runs through June 26. That’s a month before the regular July Prime Day, which means you can save on a variety of deals a few weeks in advance. In fact, some of the first Amazon Prime Day deals can be found in the weeks leading up to the big day, and retailers like Walmart and Best Buy are already preparing their deals to coincide with Amazon’s sales event.
Should you wait for Prime Day before buying anything?
You don’t have to wait until Prime Day to get a deal. There are already huge savings to be had across the Amazon store. But if you don’t see a deal ready for you yet, it’s worth waiting a few days to see what Prime Day brings. Great deals may be available TVs, laptopsee bikes and vacuum (especially robo vacs), and power stations and outdoor grills. We recommend waiting for a deal if you shop those categories today.
