If you own a PlayStation 5, the best way to get the most out of your console is through PlayStation Pluswhich gives you a huge library of games to play without having to buy them. Plus, you get access to some special discounts by signing up for PlayStation Plus. With hundreds of games to play online, you will never get bored. It’s usually worth it for most gamers, but it’s even better if you can save on your subscription too.

It is important to note that there are three levels of membership, and prices have recently increased for some plans. To help you find the one that’s right for you, Max McHone — an avid PlayStation gamer and one of CNET’s dedicated writers — has broken down the features and prices for each category below.

What’s the best deal right now?

The best deal is on PlayStation Plus by PlayStation. Choosing a 12-month subscription saves you up to 33% compared to paying monthly. The discounted price depends on the category you choose, so keep that in mind.

The best deal for PlayStation Plus

You can get a discount on all PS Plus tiers right now.

The Essentials plan can currently be purchased for $64 per year, down from $80. After 12 months, you’ll have to pay $80 for a 12-month plan.

The Extra tier is down to $101 per year, a 25% discount from its regular $135.

Then you have the Premium tier, which is down to just $107, giving you a solid 33% discount. That’s a lot of savings.

PlayStation Plus membership packages

Initially, Sony offered two gaming subscriptions, PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now. But starting in 2023, both subscriptions are for one multi-tiered service. So three membership packages are available: PlayStation Essential, Extra and Premium. Sony has also raised the prices of some of its PS Plus packages. We’ve broken down the plans and mentioned prices and deals to help you choose the best plan.

PS Plus Essential

With the price increase, you can now get this plan for $11 a month and $25 for three months. The annual package remains unchanged at $80. PlayStation Plus Essential it’s not much different than the PS Plus subscription offered before. It offers all the same features, including access to online play, free monthly games, cloud storage, and special discounts on the PlayStation Store. And if you had a PS Plus membership before the renewal, it’s automatically converted to a premium membership.

PS Plus Extra

For PS Plus Extra, there has been a slight price increase for the monthly and three-month plans. At $17 a month, $44 for three months or $135 a year, the midtier PlayStation Plus Extra the subscription is similar to the Game Pass Ultimate membership offered to Xbox users. It includes all the benefits and features of a premium membership, as well as access to a catalog of up to 400 PS4 and PS5 games. The selection includes many hot topics such as The wind of Tsushima and Red Dead Redemption 2.

PS Plus Premium

A PlayStation Plus Premium membership is the highest tier available, and now costs $20 a month, $55 for three months and $160 for a full year. In addition to the benefits of a Premium and Extra subscription, it offers access to a huge library of over 700 games. That includes the latest PS4 and PS5 hits from the Plus subscription, as well as a catalog of over 300 classics from the PS1, PS2, and PS3 eras (similar to the previous PS Now subscription). It allows you to stream many of these classic titles, so you don’t have to worry about them eating up valuable storage space.

You also get access to time-limited game trials, so you can check out new games before committing to a purchase. If you were a PS Now subscriber before the update started, it’s automatically converted to a PlayStation Plus Premium membership.
