The Lowdown
Overall, I am incredibly impressed with the Splash Jump Rope Mat. At $129, it’s not the cheapest exercise mat out there, but it’s such good quality that it might be the only one you’ll ever need! Crossrope not only puts a lot of thought into the mat itself but the strap that holds it together. It is a well made belt with a strap so you can keep it properly fastened.

I’ve reviewed a lot of fitness equipment over the years, but the Crossrope Jump Rope set is one that I use at least weekly. They are well designed and are amazing for high interval workouts and other short bursts of cardio. The good folks at Crossrope know that working out is a lot easier when you have the right surface under your feet, and to keep up with every jump, they’ve given us the opportunity to review their Splash Jump Rope Mat!
It’s easy to dismiss this as an expensive exercise mat, but trust me, it’s not. The Crossrope Splash Jump Rope Mat has a nice squish, which helps it absorb the impact of a jump. This way, you don’t make a sound like an elephant crashing every time you jump (maybe that’s just me), and you have a slightly softer surface than a hard floor.

But a mat is good for more than just a jump rope. I’ve been using it in all my workouts lately, and I finally admit that my stubbornness about not using a dedicated exercise mat means I’ve been working hard. Everything is easy on the Splash Mat, from lunges to kettlebell swings. I especially noticed that the mountain climbers were less abusive when using a mat; it’s amazing how a grippy surface and not a slippery mat makes a big difference!
One of the reasons why the Splash Jump Rope Mat works so well is that it is incredibly well made. I’ve dropped weights on it, twisted and jumped on it, rolled it over and over again, and it’s still in amazing shape. I have used yoga mats and other mats before, and they are always very slippery, or they fall apart, twist, or tear easily. The Crossrope mat is SOLID.

The Crossrope Splash Jump Rope Mat rolls up nicely, but also flattens out nicely once you put it down. The circular shape is actually perfect—I was worried it would be awkward not having the traditional rectangular shape, but it didn’t hinder my flow at all. It also has a nice undergrip that keeps it from slipping, even on my insanely slippery rental grade carpet. What also impressed me the most is that the material does not slip even when you sweat and wind!

If I had to complain about anything, it would be that it took a few tries to reset it the first few times, until I got the hang of it.
And although the aesthetics are not very important, it is important to note that the design is really interesting. More than once, I have sat in a pool of sweat and learned to swirl and splash like clouds in the sky. One type looks like a person stretching, if you look at it without your glasses!

We tend to focus more on actual fitness equipment: weights, machines, etc. But accessories are just as important, and the Crossrope Splash Jump Rope Mat is just the kind of accessory that takes your workout to that next step!
