About Hearty Cat Food

Strong Heart is an American brand of cat food that has recently entered the market. The brand offers affordable products in a variety of flavors for both cats and dogs, focusing on wet food in cans, trays, and pouches.

Everything about Strong Heart is eye-catching. From the website to the product packaging, it’s all bright colors and snappy tag lines. The brand even describes itself as a place where “every food is a combination of nutrition and irresistible taste.”

Like many low-priced cat food companies, Strong Heart leaves something to be desired in terms of product quality and product appearance. But most cats seem to like the food and loyal customers don’t complain about the cost.

Acquisition and Production

Little information is available on the availability and production of A Strong Heart pet food. Product packaging means the food is made in the USA with ingredients sourced from around the world and distributed by Simmons Pet Food.

Simmons Pet Food is one of three different divisions that operate under the Simmons Foods umbrella. The other two divisions are Simmons Prepared Foods (which makes poultry products for the food service industry) and Simmons Animal Nutrition (which makes animal feed ingredients). Simmons Foods, founded in 1949, produces ingredients for many brands of pet food including Blue Buffalo, Hills, and Fresh Pet.

The heart-strength cat food is manufactured at Simmons Foods’ Siloam Springs facility in Arkansas that opened in 2017. The facility is dedicated to the production of wet pet food, which was previously done at the facilities acquired in the 2010 acquisition of Menu Foods. Menu Foods was placed in one of the largest pet food containers of more than 10 million pet foods in North America’s history recalling more than 60 million meals caused by melamine-contaminated ingredients.

Has There Been A Recall Of Hearty Cat Food?

We have found no indication that A Strong Heart cat food has ever been recalled. Keep in mind, however, that the product is probably only a few years old. Although Strong Heart has not had a product recall, the maker of Simmons Pet Food has.

Simmons Pet Food has recalled dog food products twice due to metal contamination or problems with the can lining, once in 2006 and again in 2017. In 2019, Simmons Prepared Foods recalled more than 2 million pounds of chicken products contaminated with metal, although this recall did not affect any of the company’s pet products.

What Kinds of Cat Food Are Recommended for a Strong Heart?

A Strong Heart Offer

Strong Heart is a liquid-only food product, offering a variety of flavors and textures. The main flavors included are chicken, turkey, beef, and fish, but the recipes primarily include meat and poultry products. This breed also relies heavily on processed grains and starchy additives such as corn, wheat, and soy.

This brand offers canned food in three sizes (3-ounce, 5.5-ounce, and 13.2 ounces) and 2.6-ounce split cup trays (1.3 ounces per serving). Entrees are served on trays that include salmon, whitefish, tuna, chicken, or roasted turkey.

Here is A Strong Heart’s current list of canned foods:

  • Chicken & Salmon Dinner in Gravy
  • Chicken and Tuna Dinner in Pate
  • Chicken Dinner Pate
  • Prime Filets Chicken Dinner in Gravy
  • Salmon Dinner Pate
  • Shredded Chicken Dinner in Gravy

What Do Our Test Cats Think?

To review Strong Heart, I ordered a variety of products in all product ranges. In addition to a variety pack of pate-style meals, I purchased the Salmon Entree and Mixed Grill Dinner trays in 13.2-ounce cans.

My cats seemed to like both the Mixed Grill Dinner and the Salmon Entree, but were not interested in the pate (especially the chicken flavor). Although all three were moist, the salmon entree was the most tender. The two trays separated cleanly, and the foil tops were easy to remove. While the smaller cans have pull tabs, I had to use a can opener on the larger 13.2-ounce cans.

What Do Customers Think About Hearty Cat Food?

Because Strong Heart appears to be a relatively new product, it’s no surprise that online reviews are somewhat limited. Although several recipes have more than 1,000 reviews on Amazon, most of those sold on Chewy have less than 100 ratings. Average star ratings range from 3.6 to 4.2 out of 5 stars.

Good Review

Satisfied customers often comment on the affordability of A Strong Heart, and the brand seems to be very popular among cat feeders. A significant number of reviewers also mention that even their chosen cats love to eat.

“We buy these cans of feral food for the cats in our area. The feral cats eat it, but they don’t play too much with it. It’s a good price to feed feral cats, it’s worth the price.” – Anonymous reviewing Wet Food Pack for a Strong Heart on Amazon, May 4, 2026

“I have tried many canned foods for my cats. Ava, the worst of the three cats, really likes this flavor pate. I am happy to find a food that will be eaten by all three cats. I would recommend this to other cat parents.” – Tracy reviews Strong Heart Chicken Dinner Pate on Chewy, May 8, 2026

Negative Reviews

As with any cat food, some cats turn up their noses at A Strong Heart. Many unsatisfied customers say that their cats throw up after eating food and others say that cats usually eat anything they touch. Some customers also have concerns about the quality of the ingredient.

“From the size of the can and the large price to the questionable unknown ingredients to the seemingly low quality, I regret that I cannot recommend this food and will not feed it to my cats unless there are no other options.” – DrLadybug reviews Strong Heart Mixed Grill Dinner Pate on Chewy, January 13, 2026

“Amazon put this in the mix when I was looking for this scent at Friskies. Bought it thinking it was Friskies. Ended up hoping my designated cat would eat it. Nope. I turned and left the room. I’ll have to donate to the Rescue near me.” – Suzanne reviews Strong Heart Canned Shreds on Amazon, April 21, 2026

How Much Does Hearty Cat Food Cost?

Marketed as an affordable brand of cat food, Strong Heart lives up to this promise. The average price per ounce of the product’s wet food is between $0.10 and $0.15. Some of the cut recipes cost a little more, between $0.25 and $0.30 per ounce, but the cost per ounce goes down when you buy in bulk.

The most affordable way to buy A Strong Heart cat food is in large 13.2-ounce cans in 12 cases. If you want to try a few recipes, you can get three flavors in a variety pack. A 24-pack of 3-ounce cans costs about $20, and a 32-pack of 5.5-ounce cans costs about $25.

Depending on which recipe you choose, the average daily cost of feeding a cat a 10-ounce Cat Strong Heart ranges from about $0.70 to $2.00. This puts it in the same price range as other budget-friendly brands like Wholehearted and Friskies.

Where is Hearty Cat Food sold?

Strong Heart cat food is mainly sold online. While you can’t buy the food directly from the manufacturer, it’s easy to find on both Chewy and Amazon. You can buy individual recipes by the case or buy one of the various packages.

At the time of this review, others Strong Heart dog food recipes were available for purchase at Walmart.com, but not all the cat’s food was gone. Comments on social media suggest the food has been sold at various grocery and discount stores in the past, but current availability appears to be limited to major online pet retailers.

Overall, Is A Hearty Cat Food A Good Option?

Solid Heart will likely appeal to budget-conscious cat owners. It’s hard to beat the daily food cost of under $1 for wet food without sacrificing variety. As is often the case, however, you get what you pay for with this brand.

Not only does A Strong Heart cat food rely heavily on animal products and processed grains (especially low-priced products), but information about the product itself is limited. The wording on the brand’s website is vague, focusing on buzzwords rather than providing valuable information. If you want to know exactly what you’re putting in your cat’s bowl, this probably isn’t for you.

Although not the best product in terms of quality, A Strong Heart seems to be popular among stray and stray cat guardians. If you’re looking for a high-moisture alternative to cheap dry food for feeding ferals, this product might be worth a try. We recommend sticking to pate-style recipes with a low carb content or trays due to the absence of products and added color.
