Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 vs Exynos 2500

The Motorola Razr 70 Plus or the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 do not run on flagship processors. Instead, the Razr 70 Plus runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 while the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2500.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 was behind Motorola’s 2024 flagship, the Razr 50 Ultra, which we concluded felt responsive to use, with apps opening instantly and demanding titles playing well too. With this in mind, we can expect similar performance from the Razr 70 Plus, although it may not be able to compete with the top smartphones on the market, sporting the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or the A19 Pro.

Samsung’s decision to equip the Z Flip 7 with the Exynos 2500 rather than the Galaxy’s Snapdragon 8 Elite (which was used in the Z Fold 7) undoubtedly raised eyebrows. However, we found the Z Flip 7 to perform well and be as fast and responsive as standard smartphones.

Keep in mind that the Razr 70 Plus or the Galaxy Z Flip 7 are not designed for productivity or intensive use. If that’s what you’re looking for in your foldable, you’re better off with a book alternative, like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

The Motorola Razr 70 Plus has two 50MP cameras

Although both phones have three cameras in total, including two rear and one internal lens (like a selfie camera on a typical smartphone), they differ in their offerings.

Like its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 sports a 50MP primary and 12MP ultrawide rear camera. Although a dedicated telephoto lens would have been nice to have, you can zoom up to 2x with the main sensor and get a sharp and detailed image.

Similarly, the Razr 70 Plus has a 50MP primary camera and a 50MP ultrawide and large rear camera. In addition, Motorola introduced new and updated shooting modes, including Group Shot that takes multiple group photos and blends the best expressions into one, and Camcorder Rotate to Zoom that uses AI to automatically identify and zoom in on the subject.

Otherwise, the Razr 70 Plus has a 32MP internal lens while the Galaxy Z Flip 7 has a slightly lower 10MP one instead.

The Motorola Razr 70 Plus has a bigger battery

Samsung has never been known for equipping its phones with powerful batteries, and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is no exception. However, while its 4300mAh cell doesn’t sound amazing, we still found that the Z Flip 7 can easily last a full day before running out. Power users will struggle but this is not a heavy duty phone anyway.

Otherwise, the Razr 70 Plus’ battery is only bigger at 4500mAh. As we are yet to review the handset, we will have to wait and see how it performs in real-world usage.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 has a larger cover screen

When unlocked, both the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Razr 70 Plus have 6.9-inch AMOLED displays that put them on par with the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

While the Razr 70 Ultra’s cover display is almost identical to the Razr 70 Ultra at four inches, the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s is slightly larger at 4.1 inches. Even with that extra 0.1-inch in mind, it’s worth noting that we found it to be more cumbersome and less built-in than Motorola’s efforts.

Sure, it’s as bright as the monitor for selfies taken with the main camera, but there are a few pre-selected apps you can run on the external screen. You can empower others with Multistar, however it is not as organized as we would like. Another issue we had is with the Samsung keyboard which isn’t as easy to use as the Gboard one.

Although we haven’t used the Razr 70 Plus yet, we expect its cover display to be as functional as the Razr 60 Ultra. We really appreciate the fact that there is no need for apps or third-party applications, as you can run everything seamlessly, including WhatsApp and Spotify, directly from the display. Sure, the keyboard is a bit cramped but it’s not too hard to use in a pinch.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be supported until July 2032

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is promised to see security and Android updates until July 2023 – that will take you to Android 23. With this in mind, the handset is an attractive investment as it will see many updates from Samsung over the next few years.

Unfortunately the Razr 70 Plus falls short of this promise, as Motorola offers only three years of OS and five years of security updates instead. It’s disappointing, especially considering its high price tag.

Preliminary Decision

With a very usable cover display, a strong Qualcomm chip and strong cameras, the Motorola Razr 70 Plus seems to be the best choice for a flip-phone. However, with just three years of OS updates under its belt, it’s not the long-term investment we’d like.

We’ll be sure to review this in comparison once we review the Motorola Razr 70 Plus.
