Coway and Levoit are great rivals. These brands offer some of the best air purifiers I’ve ever tried.
In this article, I will compare the Coway Airmega 50 and the Levoit Vital 100S, two small but powerful air purifiers, and will decide which one is better to buy.
Both devices have some advanced features, but the Levoit Vital 100S has it smart app and many other smart features.
However, the real difference is in the CADR: the Coway has CADR 66.7 CFM (113.3 m³/h)while the Levoit Vital 100S has CADR of 141 CFM (240 m³/h).
Our Decision

I have to say that both devices are great and will get the job done, but in my opinion, the Levoit Vital 100S is the best air purifier.
It offers the most advanced features, The highest number of CADRsand perhaps most importantly, it delivers the best performance, especially when it comes to odor elimination and smoke removal.
Coway Airmega 50 and it’s a tough decisionbut they are better suited for smaller spaces such as adjoining bedrooms, nurseries, and similar rooms.

Performance evaluation – Comparison
Based on their room coverage, we put these two air purifiers through a few different tests.
However, the most reliable and important in this comparison is the test area 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) the room.
Both worked for 60 minutes at their maximum speed. Results: Coway Airmega 50 improved air quality by 90%while the Levoit Vital 100S does so with 95%.
Particle Removal Test – A Comparison
We put the Coway Airmega 50 and the Levoit Vital 100S through two separate tests and measured their performance using a Temptop laser particle meter.
It is clear that the Levoit Vital 100S is very powerful and efficient, that’s why achieved the best result in our particulate emission test.
Also, it has the best carbon filter, which is pellet based, too showed better odor and smoke removal performance.
Sound Level Testing – A Comparison
As for the sound levels, the first difference here is that the Levoit has it fivewhile the Cow has four fan speed. Apart from that, both devices have an automatic mode.
We measured their sound levels at high speed using a special sound measuring tool.
Noise Levels – Comparison
Comparison of noise levels at all fan speeds between Coway Airmega 50 and Levoit Vital 100S air purifiers.
At very low speeds, the Coway Airmega 50 produces a sound of 40 dBAwhile the Levoit Vital 100S produces a sound of 40.5 dBA.
At high speed, Coway produces a sound of 57.1 dBAwhile Levoit produces the sound of 65.4 dBA.
| fan speed | Coway Airmega 50 (dBA) | Levoit Vital 100S (dBA) |
|---|---|---|
| Sleep mode | 40 dBA | 40.5 dBA |
| Speed 1 (Low) | 41.2 dBA | 42.7 dBA |
| Speed 2 (Medium) | 49.4 dBA | 51.6 dBA |
| Speed 3 (High) | 57.1 dBA | 58.7 dBA |
| Speed4 (Turbo) | – | 65.4 dBA |
It is clear that the Levoit is a very noisy machine, especially at high speeds. However, you should remember that it has more fan speeds and higher CADR.
Operating Costs – Comparison
In fact, I expected the Levoit Vital 100S to be more expensive in terms of energy consumption.
A larger air cleaner, with a larger CADR and a larger 35W motor. On the other hand, the Coway Airmega 50 uses 14W motor.
Monthly Energy Costs – Comparison
Comparison of monthly energy consumption costs for Coway Airmega 50 and Levoit Vital 100S air purifiers at all fan speeds.
If you were to use both of these devices at their maximum speed, 24h every dayone month, your electricity bill will increase by approx $2.66 about the Levites, and about $1.01 in the case of Cow.
| fan speed | Coway Airmega 50 (W + $/month) | Levoit Vital 100S (W + $/month) |
|---|---|---|
| stand by | 0W ($0) | 1.5W ($0.13) |
| Sleep mode | 0.8W ($0.07) | 3.2W ($0.28) |
| Speed 1 (Low) | 2.8W ($0.25) | 6.5W ($0.57) |
| Speed 2 (Medium) | 6.2W ($0.54) | 10.5W ($0.92) |
| Speed 3 (High) | 11.5W ($1.01) | 17.6W ($1.54) |
| Speed4 (Turbo) | – | 30.3W ($2.66) |
If we sum up the cost of the replacement filter, which lasts a long time in the case of Levoit, but is also very expensive, and the cost of energy consumption, we can easily say that The Coway Airmega 50 has been slightly improved for annual maintenance.
