There is a good chance Neo Geo AES+ It got your attention this week, but you don’t really need it to play most of its games.
Much of SNK’s classic catalog is already available on PS5, often at a fraction of the price.
Sure, the console is seriously cool: while it will include modern conveniences like HDMI out, it’s built using newly produced chips inspired by the original. That means it will play old cartridges from the 90s, as well as newly remade ones.
But as neat as it is, $250/£180 is still a a lot of money for this new hardware. And that’s where we have to point out that the bulk of the Neo Geo catalog is there already is available on PS5.
For the purposes of this article we’ll stick to the software that SNK is re-releasing in physical format as part of its new hardware line, but it’s important to note that tons of other Neo Geo games can also be purchased from PS store these days, including perennial favorites like King of Fighters 98 and Last Blade.

The games cost anywhere from $5.99 to $14.99, but they go on sale regularly so it’s worth adding them to your wishlist. In some cases you can choose between the ACA Neo Geo Hamster line or the official re-release by SNK with additional features such as online play.
While we understand that a large part of the appeal of the Neo Geo AES+ is owning that great hardware, we thought it worth reminding you that there is a cheaper way to play these games on the console you already own.
