You may have heard of a game called Masters of Albion this week – it launches on April 22nd for PC only at first, but we expect an Xbox version in the future, and it’s being helmed by none other than Fable creator, Peter Molyneux.
The game is described as “a bold re-imagining of the God game genre from the creator who defined it”, featuring multiple exploration, combat, city building and management features, as well as a “Hand of God” with which you can control Albion as you wish.
Despite being heavily involved in projects such as the Fable games and the Black or White series, Molyneux says that the launch of Masters of Albion on Wednesday marks the most important event in his life apart from the birth of his son, and therefore the most important part of his 40-year career (and apparently it will be his last game).
We’ve speculated a bit about the Xbox Series X console’s release date before, but as things stand, we don’t really expect the Xbox Series X or S to be released until 2027. The game will be in early access for about 12 months at least, then we think console ports may be in the works for a full 1.0 launch.
Still, this is one to watch – a worthy pickup for ROG Xbox Ally as well, as the game has been optimized for Steam Deck with a few health features such as an auto-scaling UI. Just remember that Masters of Albion is intended for mouse and keyboard, so it may be better to dock the program or play on a regular PC.
A bold reimagining of the God game genre from the creator who defined it. Create a living world as a god – or enter it and experience it with your people. Build, guide and defend your city during the day, then survive the night when everything is in danger. There is no single solution. Only yours.
If you don’t want to wait and are eager to play something with “Albion” in the title on Xbox this week, we have another option for you! The popular MMO Albion Online launched today for free on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
This was announced a short while ago, and now it’s finally available on the Xbox Store.
