A Modular Cat Habitat That Turns Playful Curiosity Into Living Structure

What if we designed homes the way cats would? They are not people’s homes with scratch-token writing in the corner but real spatial systems built around curiosity, direct exploration, spatial comfort, and play. IN Plus Magic House starts precisely from that question, reimagining pet furniture not as an accessory but as a limited structure of animal psychology. Instead of treating the cat house as a static object, this project treats it as a living framework, which evolves around the person who lives in it.

Today’s pet owners increasingly see their cats as emotional companions rather than companion animals in the home environment. That change created a quiet design problem. Traditional cat houses, even complex ones, tend to be fixed structures. They may look good, but they pose limitations to placement, flexibility, and long-term usability. IN Plus Magic House flips that paradigm by introducing modularity as its core philosophy. Instead of selling a finished form, it offers a system of standard units that can be combined, rearranged, expanded, or reduced as needed. The result is like a piece of furniture and a custom-made living room kit.

Designer: Taizhou Hake Technology Co., Ltd

The genius of the design is in its simplicity. Each module operates independently but connects securely with precision-molded connectors. Owners assemble buildings by inserting panels into spaces and stacking them like building blocks. No technical expertise, tools, or installation manual required. This intuitive construction method does something subtle but powerful. It turns pet care into participation. Instead of buying a finished product, users become the designers of their cat’s environment. That interaction strengthens the emotional bond between the owner, the pet, and the environment.

Material options enhance system performance. The structure includes non-reactive PP resin, transparent PET panels for visibility, and carbon steel mesh for structural integrity. These materials balance durability and safety while allowing owners to monitor their pets without disturbing them. Manufacturing processes, such as injection molding and automated wire welding, ensure consistency, precision, and reliability in every unit. Everything shows a careful understanding of animal behavior and safety needs.

Behind the scenes, the development team approached the project with a research-driven mindset. They study cat behavior patterns, analyze products on the market, and map owner expectations. One of the biggest technical challenges was to maintain structural rigidity while maintaining modular flexibility. The solution was a custom connector designed to withstand pressure and weight while preventing slippage. Its written surface increases friction, ensuring that the modules remain firmly locked during use. This small component is undoubtedly the unsung hero of the system. It transforms the concept of play into a reliable architectural structure.

Developed in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, between July 2023 and November 2024 and later marketed worldwide, the N Plus Magic House represents a comprehensive change in product design thinking. It shows a shift from static identities to dynamic systems, objects that respond to changing needs over time. In a world where personalization defines the expectations of modern consumers, this approach feels less innovative and more like a glimpse into the future of home product design.
