Keeping it Real with The Photo Managers and Organizing Strategies

I just got back from the Director of Photography conference in San Diego. It’s more than inspiring to spend four full days in a room with people who are passionate about what they do. I hope you find your people and keep them real.

Keeping It Real with Image Managers and Editing Techniques

Real ID Here

Starting today, you need Real ID to fly. If you don’t have that little star on your driver’s license, you won’t be allowed to fly unless you bring your passport or other TSA-approved documents and submit to additional TSA screening. Since Real IDs are now the law of the land in every state, it’s probably best to update your driver’s license to a REAL ID as soon as you can process and process it. Don’t let it stop you from a summer trip or an emergency trip home.

ProTip: Take more documents to your DMV appointment than you think you need, especially if you’ve changed your name. I was saved by something random, like a copy of an electric bill, because some documents show the middle name and some show the middle name. Just bring all the documents you think you might need, so you can do it all at once.

Mastering From Within

If “Inside Editing” sounds familiar, you probably know Julie Morgenstern from her best-selling books and her association as “Oprah’s editor.” NAPO-GPC will host Julie Morgenstern on May 15 in person. This program is about building a business, not the nuts and bolts of property planning. If you are a small business owner, marketer, actor, or production professional, this is for you. Details and registration here.

This marks my third year teaching the Masterclass, along with my wonderful colleagues Caroline Gunter and Jill Yesko Diana (both pictured below). This 4-month group training program continues to support and develop business owners to grow and better serve their photography clients. We are proud of them all!

San Diego was beautiful. Have you been there? Would you like me to write an article about fun pieces?

No matter where it happens, the highlight of my conference trip is always spending time with my colleagues. Philip Griffith, an experienced editor I appreciate, was kind enough to include me in his interviews. Philip is the epitome of a caring, professional photographer. I hope you will listen to some of the tips he has collected from our wise colleagues.

So what’s new in the world of photo editing?

Digital frames are growing in popularity. Aura Frames brought their beautiful, large frames to share with us. You can find the Aura on Amazon, of course. (affiliate links)

Meatballs are still a thing! Instax mini smartphone photo printers are very popular. I’m thinking of getting my high school diploma soon so I can take it with me to college. They are just delicious. Yes, it’s a throwback to the old days of Polaroid film. Remember those?

We talk a lot about protecting photos and memorabilia during fires, floods, and other natural disasters. Please digitize and back up your photos before it’s too late. Remember, you can request a free 15-minute photo backup trial with us, whether you’re a client or not.

If you want to go the DIY photo editing route, definitely save yourself a lot of time and frustration when you pick up a Dig Your Photos kit from our partner Rhoda Gordon. The kit comes with the essentials and “recipe” cards to help you edit your photos the same way we teach our customers, step by step.
