The Nightstand Association
Your nightstand is the last thing you see before you go to sleep, and the first thing you see when you wake up in the morning.
So, if your nightstand feels like a mess, taking the time to organize it can have a big impact on your sleep, and how you start your days.
Start with Decluttering
Ready to plan your night spot? Start by getting rid of everything that doesn’t belong to you.
It’s time to throw out the trash, dirty cups, clothes, and anything else that clutters up the space.
Clearing the space will help you make room for the essentials that make your bedroom feel like an organized retreat!
Check How You Use Space
Think about how you use the space around your bed, and plan accordingly.
And make sure you use your nightstand!
If you use your phone or tablet regularly, make sure you have charging cables nearby.
I know, all the popular advice says we shouldn’t use our phones before bed, but if you do, set your environment to suit your needs. YOU are in charge of your space and how you use it.
It helps to make a list of 2-3 things you use for your nightstand to make room for what you need. If you’re reading in bed, you’ll want a good light source, and perhaps reading glasses or eyeglass cleaners. <–These are links to my favorites on Amazon.
If you find that you are constantly taking out the trash from your bedside table, place a litter box there to make cleaning easier.
Gather Everything You Need on Your Nightstand
The next step is to gather everything you NEED to have on your nightstand.
I like to collect all these on the bed and put them in categories.
That way you can see everything you have, and check if you need additional storage solutions to help you keep everything organized.
The Nightstand Organization finds

Now that you have everything you need in one place, it’s time to look at organizing solutions that will help you keep everything organized.
Being able to find what you need on your bedside table is very useful, and can actually help you improve your sleep if you don’t have to get up in the middle of the night to find things like your fan remote, tissues, or anything else you might need.
Here are some of the organization’s findings that may be particularly useful for nightstands:
I am providing links to these products on Amazon as a convenience for you. As an Amazon affiliate, I benefit from eligible purchases.
- A small USB fan – Get hot in the middle of the night? Turn on this small bedside fan for instant relief!
- Remote Control/Device Caddy – This is perfect for storing your tablet, remote controls, your phone, or anything else you want to keep near your bed. It makes everything so much easier to find!
- Sunrise alarm clock – If you want to stop using your phone as an alarm clock, or just want a gentle way to wake up in the morning, this beautiful clock is a game changer! And it looks great sitting on your nightstand.
- Magnetic Cable Clips – Make all your cables easily accessible with these magnetic cable clips. They come in packs of 8, so you can use extra clips in your office or other places in your space where cables tend to fall off tables or desks.
- Easy-to-use Cable Holder in the Dark – I love this magnetic cable holder for the bedside table because you don’t need to plug the cable into anything for it to work. Just place your phone or tablet cord on this, and it stays in place.
- Caddy bed – This caddy attaches to your bed frame, making a great place to store your essentials – including a water bottle!
- Magazine Basket – If you read papers, magazines, or large books in bed, this is a great way to keep them organized. I love that this is a flexible storage solution that can be used anywhere in your home!
Maintain Your Nightstand Organization
Once you’ve set up your nightstand, keep an eye on how your systems are performing.
Over time you may find that you use different materials on your nightstand, and it’s always good to test and make changes as needed.
Enjoy your redesigned nightstand!
