8.8Total Score

AAppliance company Miele has become famous for its energy-friendly, Energy Star home appliances, with a wide line of products ranging from vacuum cleaners to coffee machines to dishwashers.

At the top of Miele’s range of popular appliances are the W1 washing machine and T1 dryer systems, which are sold separately, but are often bought together as a set.

The W1 front-loading washer (model WWH860) and its companion, the T1 heat-pump tumble dryer (model TWI180), have such a long feature list that they make other washers and dryers (even new ones!) seem old-fashioned and simple.

The W1 and T1 are the latest updates to Miele’s premium laundry care line.

The latest versions of the Miele washer and dryer systems, the W1 and T1 are designed to be installed side by side or stacked, with adjustable door hinges on the W1 making it even easier to find the perfect location for these units in your home.

LED Illuminates the interior of W1

Miele claims to be the only manufacturer to use enamel to finish the front panels of their washer/dryer systems, and the enamel is scratch proof and rust proof, in addition to being easy to clean. Whether this claim is true or not, the addition of a modern glossy Lotus White coating gives these units an undeniable cool finish.

Both the W1 and T1 systems are equipped with fragrance technology (TwinDos and FragranceDos, respectively) aimed at infusing clothes with a pleasant fragrance throughout each cycle.

W1 – TwinDos releases

According to one of the informational videos of this website, TwinDos is a different spraying system with two phases, Ultra Phase 1 (detergent) and Ultra Phase 2 (detergent booster), where detergent and booster are automatically dispensed during the load in the right proportions for the size and color of the clothes being washed.

Eco-Friendly Designs

The W1 washing system is designed to be simple and easy to use. An example of this is the SingleWash cycle, which allows you to wash one item (up to 1.1lbs) with a machine that automatically adjusts the length of the cycle, as well as the energy and water usage required.

No more feeling guilty about not washing a full load! Miele has made something quick, one wash that is eco-friendly and easy.

As further proof of Miele’s commitment to environmentally friendly appliances, the T1 tumble dryer, using EcoDry technology, is a long-lasting low-energy appliance with significantly shortened drying times.

T1 – FragranceDos technology

T1 – FragranceDos eliminates the need for conventional dryer sheets

FragranceDos is a system that uses fragrance pods during the drying cycle, just like traditional dryer sheets, but without the hassle of adding pods to each new load.

The scent intensity level of each load is adjustable, making it easy to customize each load.

Most amazingly, Miele has managed to create a drying system that is environmentally friendly and still works well – the T1 dryer has 6 heat settings and 18 different drying cycles. Let’s return the focus to the W1 washing machine for a bit.

This unit not only comes equipped with the TwinDos mentioned above, but there is also CapDos, which allows you to use detergent, fabric softener and any other additives with pre-divided tablets.

Miele’s T1 Dryer is surprisingly spacious

The W1 has a delayed start (up to 24 hours) complete with a countdown timer that lets you know when the cycle will start and an EcoFeedback option that lets you control electricity and water consumption during use.

The ‘Outer’ and ‘Experimental’ wash programs allow you to thoroughly wash your heaviest outerwear without compromising the integrity or usefulness of items (such as water repellents and thermal clothing).

Referring back to the T1 tumble dryer, the SoftSteam feature should be mentioned.

The water reservoir allows the dryer to be installed where there is no plumbing.

SoftSteam is said to be an alternative to ironing; the dryer heats and heats things, smoothing them and removing wrinkles before they are taken out to dry.

Used in conjunction with the W1 ‘pre-iron’ feature, these W1 and T1 system features could eliminate ironing from your life entirely!

Internal ‘honeycomb’ design

Designed to prevent aging

Both the W1 washing machine and the T1 tumble dryer are designed from the ground up to clean and dry clothes without causing excessive wear and tear. Each system is built with internal ‘honeycomb’ style drums – specially designed to allow for gentle, even washing and drying.

The T1 dryer also comes with a feature called ‘perfect dry’, which automatically (but surprisingly!) detects the mineral content of the water used to wash clothes and adjusts the drying process accordingly. Let’s not forget to mention the lint filter that uses a clear text indicator to notify the user of the need to ‘clean the air ducts’!

Just when you thought these units couldn’t work anymore, Miele has installed a washer and dryer with WiFiConn@ct. WiFiConn@ct is used to connect Miele appliances to the Internet via a standard WiFi router. Download the Miele app (via any app store) and get instant access to the machine’s status, receive notifications (eg, your detergent is running low), or place orders for new products through the Miele store.

Pros and Cons: Is it really worth it?

Of course, after so long the pros of these two electronics, it would be silly to disagree about the cons (and there are always cons!). Both of these units come with features that include some Miele products. That means that in order to use any of these units to their full potential, you’ll also need to commit to buying only Miele products (detergents, fabric softeners, conditioners, etc.)

Although not a requirement, the website strongly suggests that Miele appliances work best with Miele products – which really makes sense. If you’re not picky about using house or brand-name products, this may not bother you.

Although many of the features mentioned above are impressive, a quick look at the website gives an idea of almost too many bells and whistles – with information on other features that are hard to find or completely absent. Potential consumers seeking additional information may need to contact Miele directly or obtain information indirectly through third party websites.

The Miele Connect App

Overall, the Miele TWI180 WP washing machine and the WWH860 WCS washing machine are both incredibly impressive appliances. They join the wave of eco-friendly, modern, internet-enabled home appliances.

While these systems are more expensive than standard washers and dryers, at $1,799 and $1,999, respectively (as stated on the website), they are reasonably priced for the number of features included in each separate unit. Although this is one of the most expensive washing machines today, remember that it is also very advanced in features and technology.

Buyers looking for an efficient, compact, modern washer/dryer set can’t go wrong considering these two units.
