With the dish drawer market right around the corner, Fisher and Paykel decided to update their Dish Drawer line. We lived with this unit for three months, and during that time it worked well.

After spending three months with Fisher & Paykel’s new DishDrawer in our showroom commissary, we’ve found this stylish, versatile home dish washer. Of all the mid-range brands sold here in the US today, Fisher & Paykel has proven that it’s not afraid to try new things.
From the 36″ DishDrawer that didn’t quite take off, to the Top Load Dryer that reimagined the laundry user experience – Fisher & Paykel is always pushing the envelope in appliance innovation at an affordable price – and that’s one thing we love about this product.
The model we tested is the DD24DCT9XN
For 2018, Fisher & Paykel Appliances has revamped its lineup, with updated styling and a new series of DishDrawer models. The model we were testing is the DD24DCTX9N – the taller variant, with integrated handles and a single control panel.
Made of stainless steel, these dishwashers are stunning to look at. One welcome improvement was the stainless steel emphasis on the handles and the redesigned control panel.

One Word Sums Up This Dishwasher: Versatile Functionality
Unlike any other dishwasher on the market today, the Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer is truly different things for different people.
For the over 60 crowd, a dishwasher that doesn’t require bending. For the eco-friendly crowd, an Energy Star rating and the ability to run a true “part load” are must-haves.
The ability to use a half-load of dishes is a key feature.
We installed this dishwasher in our showroom, where every employee goes to make lunch and wash their dishes every day.
This was the perfect place, we thought, to not only put the dishwasher through its paces but also to see the various reactions people gave when using it.
Our team takes no time to load the dishwasher properly.
Feedback and Notes from Our Team
“It looks MUCH better than the previous model.”
In terms of style, new models are used at home. The previous model had a two-step control panel function, with controls to set the cycle to inside of the unit, then start/stop and lock settings outside the unit. It was a little confusing and blurry.
This years redesign, while not perfect, is a big step in the right direction.
Now all your cycles, start positions, and drawer choices can be handled in one panel.
The new control panel is better than the previous generation.
“It’s quieter than I expected.”
Fisher and Paykel measured the noise level at 44 db. Our simple decibel measurement app found between 48-53 during our wash cycle. This was still more than bearable and what we would consider a “quiet” dishwasher.
“It amazes me how many dishes this thing can carry.”
The truth. When you use the DishDrawer unit, you get the feeling that you can fit more dishes inside than you could in a regular dishwasher. Is this true? We’re not sure and haven’t tested it yet, but we can’t help but shake the feeling when we fill it up that it holds more than we can easily fit in a standard door dishwasher.

Gripes and Nitpicks
The redesign of the control panel was a welcome development. Only evil? Because both dishwasher drawers are operated on the same control panel, they can get a little confusing and hard to read at times.
Many times I have started the dishwasher on the bottom when I meant to start and select the top. And this is just down to not being able to easily see what the function of each button is.
We chose the integrated handle version.
In future design iterations, we’d like to see this control panel get bigger and maybe use some kind of lighting indicator to let you know which cabinet you’re currently setting modes for.
Also, one feature that is still sorely lacking inside these dishwashers is stainless steel. The tubs are made of plastic, and while they get the job done, at this price point we feel that a stainless steel tub isn’t too much to ask.
The conclusion
The Double DishDrawer by Fisher & Paykel is still a unique product.
Fisher & Paykel Double DishDrawer in Stainless Steel
It is different because it is now one thing dishwasher cabinet design on the market in the United States. Here in South Florida, we’ve found them to be very popular, especially in condos where owners rarely have company and there’s rarely a need to use full containers.
The flexibility this dishwasher offers is amazing. You can use one load on Intensive Sanitize, while running a second load on Delicate, all at the same time. Literally, it’s two dishwashers in one.
Finish options are Black, White, and Stainless Steel. Credit the design team for making both the Black and White variants look as classy as their Stainless Steel counterparts. At $1,369. for all the differences, Fisher & Paykel has priced this model according to the unit’s features and the premium target market.
